Institutional initiatives

True scientific insight is the product of many. Only by bringing together diverse, multifunctional groups with complementary knowledge and experience can we hope to solve some of the toughest problems in science and medicine. In that vision, St. Jude creates and invests in formal initiatives to align efforts of investigators, clinicians, and external partners.

St. Jude research collaboratives

St. Jude is a nucleating force for collaboration of the brightest minds tackling groundbreaking project that accelerate scientific research in the pursuit of cures. As a key element of our strategic vision, St. Jude has formally established the St. Jude Research Collaboratives Program. Together, each Collaborative creates a world-leading team sculpted for a specific scientific problem with the greatest transformative potential for catastrophic pediatric diseases.

Global impact on infectious disease

Infection is the single leading cause of death from disease of children worldwide. Virologist Robert Webster joined St. Jude in 1968 and laid the groundwork for the institution's decades-long fight against infectious diseases. Today, St. Jude leads the world in efforts to understand and combat influenza and COVID-19.

Center of Excellence for Data-Driven Discovery

The Center of Excellence for Data-Driven Discovery supports researchers in integrating large, multi-dimensional datasets to uncover new biological insights and testable hypotheses.

Blue Sky Initiatives

A robust blue-sky process allows St. Jude to seize emerging opportunities and nimbly pursue them. The blue-sky process challenges faculty and staff to explore bold new ideas that have the potential to transform science, medicine, and our institution.
